The LMG's Tuesday 25th November meeting has multiple presentations on costs, modelling and survey results as well as facilitated discussions on scenario planning for 2009

National transport policy, supply chain costs and a new freeway - next meeting - 2pm Tuesday 27th May at VTA

Three issues focus this next meeting on Tuesday 27th May from 2pm to 4.30pm at the Victorian Transport Association, Wirraway Drive in Fishermans Bend, Melbourne:

National Transport Policy - what's happening?
Des Powell, former Deputy Commissioner of the NTC will outline the current political thinking within transport at the Federal and State levels. Not to be missed. An insight you will rarely get!
- Supply chain costs - what's the outlook?
Following on from the February presentation on truck cost model, the LMG is preparing a supply chain cost model to measure the impact of rising costs on goods being transported through the chain. A key tool for lobbying and also internal use, come and discuss this fundamental issue that drives logistics managers!
- New freeway - what EastLink is about to do to freight movement in Melbourne
The Eddington study has highlighted the issues. EastLink is about to add one of Melbourne's missing links when it opens in just over a month. Find out the facts and how you can benefit from this new 40km stretch of freeway

LMG Dinner 2008 - 8th April and 3rd June

This is our fifth year of hosting these small (generally 12 to 15 people) dinners in the private dining room at the Athenaeum Club, 87 Collins Street.

They are a chance to meet fellow managers over dinner and to discuss industry issues around the table. Members can attend free of charge. We have invited some special guests to each one including Peter Bentley, COO of EastLink on the 8th April.

According to one attendee " The calibre of guests, and the openness with which they shared their knowledge, views and aspirations for our business and the nations success was outstanding"

Transport costs up - results of discussions

The LMG meeting on the 26th February discussed these issues and heard presentations on Congestion issues and a possible truck cost model

Overall the picture is one of concern with a potential 30% increase in direct costs in the next two years.

This does not help our competitiveness one bit said LMG Chairman Andrew Bray. We intend working on some more modelling to further highlight these concerns so that Governments are well aware of the cost pressures that we face and the implications for employment and future competitiveness.

It will remain on our agenda throughout 2008
